GetBOXX

FinBOXX appliance image

1 · Download the appliance image

Ubuntu 24.04 · self-installing FinBOXX node · ≈ 3.2 GB

⤓ Download appliance ISO
Resumable download. SHA-256:

Verify the download (optional, recommended)

In PowerShell, in your Downloads folder — the hash printed must match the one above:

Get-FileHash .\finboxx-appliance-ubuntu24.iso -Algorithm SHA256

2 · Write it to a USB with Rufus

8 GB+ USB stick — everything on it will be erased.

  1. Get Rufus from rufus.ie (the portable .exe, no install needed).
  2. Plug in the USB stick. Open Rufus.
  3. Device → select your USB stick.
  4. SELECT → choose the finboxx-appliance-ubuntu24.iso you just downloaded.
  5. Click START.
  6. Rufus shows “ISOHybrid image detected” → choose Write in DD Image mode, then OK.
  7. Confirm the erase warning and wait for it to finish, then close Rufus and eject.
The DD Image mode choice is the important one. This is a self-installing image — “ISO Image mode” rebuilds the boot menu and breaks the unattended setup. Always pick DD Image mode.
After writing, Windows may pop up “You need to format the disk before you can use it.” Click Cancel. The USB is fine — Windows just can’t read the Linux layout. It will boot.

3 · Boot the appliance box from the USB

  1. Plug the USB into the appliance mini-PC and power it on.
  2. Open the boot menu (usually F12 / F11 / Esc / F2 at power-on) and pick the USB drive.
  3. It installs Ubuntu and the FinBOXX node fully unattended — leave it; it reboots itself when done.
  4. When it’s up, commission it from a till. (Default login if needed: user finboxx.)

Optional: one-click flasher (beta)

A Windows app that downloads the image and writes the USB for you. Rufus above is the recommended path; this is still being hardened on some machines.
